How we solved the mystery of a donated suitcase

By definition, heir tracing is an exciting profession: we rummage through old documents and investigate family relationships. What's more, it's also about assets that belong to people who don't even know about them.

However, we are convinced that we can also use our skills for more. That is why we have decided to offer so-called pro bono activities. This means that we also become active if our research is required by persons or institutions for whom a fee-based commission is not possible for various reasons. In these cases we take over the costs.

An example of such activity: The Exilmuseum Berlin Foundation received a suitcase as a potential exhibit. The suitcase had been donated because a Jewish girl had used it when leaving Berlin for England. There were initials on the suitcase that could not be assigned at first. Through our genealogical research, we were able to inform the Exilmuseum Foundation of the family background and thus also the person to whom the suitcase had originally belonged.
